Bluetooth is a near-communication system for moving data and information between devices. Typcially this allows mobile phone to share content quickly and at no cost within a few metres of each other.
As most handsets have Bluetooth capability, and due to changes in the regulations there has been a marked increase in proximity marketing using this technology.
The way these campaigns are carried out is as follows: a poster or 'wall' is set up with a Bluetooth broadcasting unit. The printed information will invite the user to switch on their bluetooth to receive the information. It has the advantage of being able to transfer large files quickly without the need for data network charges.
